Following are highlights from the regular meeting of Town Council held on December 9, 2024:
- A funding request from the Lanigan and District Curling Club has been referred to the 2025 budget process, which will be reviewed with Council in January 2025.
- The December 23, 2024 Council meeting has been cancelled with the next regular Council meeting scheduled for January 13, 2025. There may be a special Council meeting conducted on December 16, 2024; however, separate public notice will be provided if there is a special meeting.
- The 2025 Regular Council meeting schedule, Council Committee appointments and Deputy Mayor Schedule have been approved and will be posted in the office, on the Town website and Facebook page separately.
- Western Municipal Consulting Ltd. has been appointed to be the Board of Revision for property assessment appeals and the Development Appeal Board for any development appeals under The Planning and Development Act.
- Mayor and Council has approved a retainer agreement with the law firm MLT LLP for the purpose of seeking advice on matters of conflict of interest and/or code of ethics on an as needed basis.
- An extension has been granted to Dream Concepts Inc. for the closure of sale and development of 16 Downing Drive for multiple family development, which is the parcel of land just west of the Lodge and Hospital. The extension is granted to June 30, 2025.
The Christmas season is rapidly approaching, and we will be closing the town office and general operations for the week of December 23 to 27. December 25 and 26 are statutory holidays and staff will be using vacation days for December 23, 24 and 27 to take a much-needed break.
The arena operations will be closed December 24, 25 and 26, with operations resuming on December 27. We will be extending the times available for public skating and shinny prior to December 24th and after December 26th.
Staff will be on-call as needed to address any emergency and/or snow clearing as needed.
