According to the latest data from Statistics Canada (2021), our town's population is 1,433 and has been steadily increasing each year. We're thrilled to see our community flourish and are excited to extend a warm invitation to individuals from all backgrounds to join us.

Lanigan's promising future includes major expansions planned in the surrounding potash mines, along with the build of a new SaskPower power station, over the next few years. These developments are expected to further fuel our town's growth, creating even more opportunities and a welcoming environment for new residents.

Lanigan has produced some exceptional talent in the world of professional hockey, with several NHL players hailing from our town. Here’s a look at the remarkable careers of our hometown heroes:

  • Bobby Baun, known for his toughness and determination on the ice, had a legendary NHL career spanning 17 seasons. Best remembered for playing through a broken ankle to score the game-winning goal for the Toronto Maple Leafs in Game 6 of the 1964 Stanley Cup Finals, Baun’s legacy as a clutch player and four-time Stanley Cup champion endures in the annals of hockey history.
  • Brian Propp was a prolific left winger who played 15 seasons in the NHL, most notably with the Philadelphia Flyers. Known for his scoring ability, Propp tallied over 1,000 points during his career and was a five-time NHL All-Star. His consistency and leadership on the ice made him one of the standout players of his era.
  • Todd Strueby was a hardworking center who made his mark in the NHL with the Edmonton Oilers. Though his NHL career was brief, Strueby continued to play professionally in various leagues, showcasing his dedication and love for the game.
  • Sheldon Brookbank, a gritty defenseman, enjoyed a solid NHL career that included winning the Stanley Cup with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2013. Known for his physical play and team-first mentality, Brookbank became a key contributor to the teams he played for and transitioned into coaching after his playing days, further contributing to the sport.
  • Wade Brookbank, like his brother Sheldon, carved out a niche in the NHL as an enforcer. Playing for multiple teams over his career, Wade was known for his toughness and willingness to stand up for his teammates. His role on the ice was crucial in maintaining team dynamics and morale.
