Meet our committed Town Council members who are working hard to keep our town thriving.

Town council member - Mayor Tony Mycock

Tony is proud to continue serving as the Mayor of Lanigan, starting his second term in 2024 after being first elected to the role in 2020. Before becoming Mayor, Tony served one term as a Town Councillor, bringing a wealth of leadership experience and a deep commitment to the community. As Mayor, Tony represents the town, presides over council meetings, and works closely with the Chief Administrative Officer to ensure good governance. He views his role as a chance to help shape Lanigan’s future while maintaining the strong sense of community that makes the town unique.

Professionally, Tony is the Operations Manager for Sinnett Pork Farm LTD, where he oversees day-to-day operations of a 2,600-sow Farrow to Finish pork farm. Managing a staff of 20, Tony is experienced in budgeting, logistics, and problem-solving—skills he applies to his work on council. His passion for the community was sparked by a former Mayor, Bernie Bishop, and has been reinforced through years of coaching hockey and softball, working at local events, and volunteering for numerous fundraisers.

Tony, his wife Yvonne, and their two daughters, moved to Lanigan in 1998 for work. Since then, the Mycock family has been deeply involved in the community, building lasting friendships and supporting local initiatives. Tony fondly recalls his family's immigration to Canada in 1975, where Lanigan was their first home. Today, he treasures time with his granddaughters, and enjoys hobbies like fishing, camping, gardening, and walking his black lab, Murphy. His favourite spot in Lanigan is the rink, a hub of community spirit where he enjoys watching hockey.

Tony loves Lanigan for its small-town charm, friendly atmosphere, and strong sense of community. Events like Celebrate Lanigan Days showcase what the town can achieve when everyone works together, and Tony is committed to ensuring this vibrant tradition continues to evolve and thrive.

VISION FOR LANIGAN’S FUTURE

Tony’s vision for Lanigan centers on sustainable growth and development. He is dedicated to expanding both residential and commercial opportunities in town, with a focus on creating affordable housing, supporting daycare services, and ensuring the town is ready for new families and businesses. Infrastructure improvements are a top priority, including upgrades to water, sewer, roads, and sidewalks, alongside enhancements to recreation facilities and programs.

Health care remains a key focus for Tony, who has been a passionate advocate for the Lanigan hospital and clinic. Under his leadership, the town has made significant progress, but Tony recognizes there is still work to be done. Over the next 5-10 years, he envisions Lanigan growing into a hub of activity, with new homes, expanded business services, and an even stronger sense of community.

Tony encourages residents to get involved and discover everything Lanigan has to offer, urging residents to join local groups, volunteer, and contribute to making Lanigan an even better place to live. Inspired by the town’s growth and the achievements of its people, Tony remains committed to working hard for Lanigan and ensuring it continues to flourish for generations to come.

A community offers you as much as you are willing to put into it. All the recreation facilities would not be here if it was not for fundraising and volunteers. Getting involved with clubs, teams or groups is how you get to know your neighbours and fellow residents.  That is what builds a strong community.

He encourages others to step up and get involved, whether through volunteering, coaching, or simply participating in local events, as every effort helps make Lanigan an even better place to call home.

There are many ways to get involved, you just need to decide to do it. Without enough people getting involved, it is much more difficult for a town to thrive, whether it be coaching a sports team or something else, every position is important to our town.
