In the spring of 2019, Lanigan's upgraded water system was officially commissioned, bringing cleaner and healthier water to our community. Here’s how it works:

  • New Water Source: We now draw water from two groundwater wells tapping into the Hatfield Aquifer, providing a reliable source of fresh and clean water.
  • Advanced Treatment Process: The water plant has been retrofitted to use much of the existing infrastructure, with significant upgrades:
    • Remineralization Bed: This balances pH levels naturally without chemicals, fostering healthier water.
    • Disinfection: We use liquid sodium hypochlorite to ensure safe, disinfected water.
    • Reverse Osmosis: A new reverse osmosis membrane unit guarantees our water meets Canadian Drinking Water Quality Guidelines.

The wells are located 2,312 meters from the water treatment plant, with supply lines running along Agnew Avenue and Hoover Street to connect to the facility.

Providing top-quality water that meets or exceeds national standards is crucial for the health and safety of our community, and our Council is committed to this priority.

In 2017, Lanigan expanded its sewage lagoon to meet community needs and comply with new legislation. Located at NW 10-33-22 W2M, the lagoon now includes a new primary cell and a converted storage cell. The force main was extended, and control structures were replaced to ensure environmental protection.

Key components of our sewage system include:

  • Main Lift Station: Located at the corner of Hoover Street & Industrial Drive, upgraded in 2017 with new internal piping.
  • Second Lift Station: Located on Wexford Street.
  • Small Lift Station: Along Vetshome Drive, assisting sewage removal on the north side of the community.
  • Sewer Lines: Approximately 15,763 meters of sewer lines throughout the community.
