Council Meeting Highlights (May 13, 2024)

The Council of the Town of Lanigan held a regular meeting on Monday, May 13, 2024, and following are highlights of the meeting:

  • The Mayor and Council are pleased to announce that they have approved a three (3) year contract for Ron McCullough to be the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) for the Town of Lanigan.
  • Council approved the sponsorship of two Lanigan Central High student awards being $50.00 for the Grade 9 Student Excellence, and $50.00 for the Grade 12 2nd place Student Excellence; and Councillor Shanon Bay will be the Council representative to present the awards on May 29, 2024.
  • Council has confirmed that the Town of Lanigan will dedicate the site (land) of the former swimming pool and tennis court area for the purpose of daycare expansion in the Town of Lanigan.
  • Council has referred the Lanigan Cooperative Daycare request for a speed bump to Administration for review, research, and report back to Council with recommendations. 
  • Under authority of Section 16 of The Construction Codes Act, Building Officials of MuniCode Services Ltd. have been appointed as the Building Official for the Town of Lanigan.
  • The Town of Lanigan will be proceeding with the Thrive in Lanigan Phase II Marketing Solution at a fixed rate of $15,000.00 plus GST, and Lanigan.ca Website Refresh Solution at a rate of up to $15,000.00 plus GST. The purpose of implementing these proposals is to improve marketing the Town of Lanigan through the Thrive in Lanigan website and supporting strategies for growth. The Lanigan.ca website is long overdue for a refresh to ensure that it is easy to access and user friendly.
  • Council has passed first reading of Bylaw 2/2024 and Bylaw 3/2024 to amend the Official Community Plan and Zoning Bylaw for the Town of Lanigan on Parcel K, Plan 65H05104 to initiate the development readiness process for future residential development. Parcel K is located south of the new water park. Celebrate Lanigan is moving forward with activities planned for June 21, 22 and 23.
