
Following are highlights from the regular meeting of Town Council held on March 24, 2025:
- Council and Administration will be attending the annual SUMA (Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association) convention in Saskatoon April 13-16. Proposed resolutions to be considered at the convention were reviewed by Council during this Council meeting. - Due to the SUMA convention, the April 14, 2025 regular Council meeting will be cancelled, and due to the federal election, the April 28, 2025 regular Council meeting will also be cancelled. A regular Council meeting will be held on April 21, 2025 in lieu.
- Council gave first reading to three land use bylaw amendments to support new development in Lanigan. Two of the bylaw amendments relate to a parcel of land (approximately 47 acres) that is proposed for acreage (large lot) development. The other bylaw amendment proposes to remove the requirement for a 3m (10’) corner side yard setback for new dwellings in the R1 – Low Density Residential District. Public notices are in the process of being published to advertise the required public hearings on these amendments.
- The 2024/2025 arena season has come to an end with arena operations wound down. General maintenance plans are now in the works as we start thinking about next season.
- The new water slide project will be completed and commissioned by May 31 with swimming pool operations planned to officially start June 1.
Daycare Project Update: The RFP (Request for Proposals) to build the new daycare facility is now on SaskTenders with a close date of April 16, 2025. All proposals will be evaluated by a review team, followed by approval of a successful bidder, then enter into a construction contract and construction is still targeted to start in June 2025.
Old Swimming Pool Demolition: The old swimming pool structures and tennis court is scheduled for demolition to be completed in time for a construction start of the new daycare facility.
There will be lots of construction activity in the area due to the old swimming pool demolition, the new daycare facility construction and demolition of the former schools following occupancy of the new school.
